The Torre di San Cristoforo, also known as La torre di Mariano II, is located in the old town of Oristano. The tower was built in 1290 during the reign of Mariano II and served as the northern gatehouse in the city walls. It was equipped with defensive structures to protect the entrance to the medieval city.
In the historic center of Oristano the Tower of San Cristoforo or Mariano II stands out, a clear trace of the lost fortifications. During the carnival period the tower is an obligatory and suggestive point of passage for the knights involved in the Sa Sartiglia equestrian event.
