The teahouse Jyushoan（寿松庵） stands on top of one of the artificial hills in the Japanese Garden. The artificial hills themselves represent the mountains of Japan. In Zen Buddhism great importance is attached to the tea ceremony and the architecture of the tea room. Originally the tea room was built as a separate room to the house (kakoi), later a separate hut (söan) was built in the surrounding nature, known as the 'sukiya' - literally "abode of taste".

The tea house evokes the atmosphere of a living room in a 17th century remote, old farm: it is simple, sober and semi-dark. This interior is chosen for the tea house for its minimalism so that during the tea ceremony one can concentrate on the tea and not be distracted. The walls are paper thin to give the feeling of being in the middle of nature where you can hear the birds chirping and the rustling of leaves in the wind. The entrance door is narrow and low, symbolizing the strict separation between the worldly environment and the sacredness of the interior space.

Next to the tea house is a tsukubai (蹲踞), a stone washbasin where the participants of the tea ceremony first symbolically cleanse their body and mind.

Next to it is an Oribe stone lantern (織部焼). The name Oribe refers to Furuta Oribe, a grand master of the tea ceremony living in the Middle Ages. So in honor of this grand master we have a stone lantern.
