Here you will find the oldest hemlock on the trail. As the information sign reveals, the age of this tree is estimated to be up to 400 years. To protect the roots of the trees, it is best to stay on the wooden boards of the boardwalk.

The large Eastern Hemlock tree is estimated to be 400 years old. Nova Scotia's Eastern Hemlock is a foundational species in Eastern Canada and some of the last remaining old-growth forests. They perform unique ecological functions and create their own environmental conditions. Dense shade cast by hemlock regulates the temperature of understories and provides protection from harsh weather.
