Since 2012, peacock goats, a rare Swiss breed, have been grazing alongside Przewalski's horses in the area around the former firing range "Range 6" of the former US military training area. The aim is to prevent the open sandy areas from becoming overgrown with shrubs – especially by suppressing the late-flowering bird cherry, which the goats particularly enjoy eating 🌿.

Since April 2012, the Tennenloher Forest nature reserve has been grazed with goats.

The peacock goat, also known as the gray-black mountain goat, is a breed of domestic goat adapted to life in the mountains.
Since their milk yield is low compared to high-performance breeds (470 to 500 liters for 210 milking days per year), the peacock goat is now bred more as a meat goat (e.g. in Lower Saxony). In the mountains, however, it is also often used in landscape conservation, especially to preserve the cultural landscapes that have arisen in the course of alpine farming.
