"... There are many different stories about the legend of the "witch of the Eckwald", about the exact content of which even the local population does not agree. Probably the best-known and also the oldest tale of this legend is still being passed on today.

The local mountain, the Eckwald, towers above the small town of Unterharmersbach. Many years ago, an old woman lived there all alone. Because of her ugly appearance, people always spoke of the "witch of the Eckwald". Her old and torn clothes also contributed to the origin of her name. Every resident of Unterharmersbach who had heard this story from his parents or had it passed on to him was afraid late in the evening The mere thought of seeing or meeting the witch triggered fear and terror in the children.

One day a man was found dead in Eckwald and since that day the witch is said not to have been seen in Eckwald. Whether this old woman had anything to do with the death of the man is not known to this day......"
