The tower and presbytery of this church are all that remain. The nave of the church was extended in 1716 and the entire interior was given a baroque makeover. In 1386, Pettneu became a chaplaincy with its own pastor; in 1582 it became a curate and in 1891 an independent parish. The ceiling paintings were created by the Tyrolean painter Kirchöbner. The original, carved Stations of the Cross date from the time of Empress Maria Theresa. Apparently, the faces depicted are those of Pettneu's "originals".
