The Atlantic Wall was a 2,685-kilometer-long defensive line along the coasts of the Atlantic Ocean, the English Channel, and the North Sea. It was planned and partially constructed between 1942 and 1944 by the German occupying forces in France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Norway, the British Channel Islands, and the German Reich during World War II.

Today, these huge concrete structures are used as art objects. But during the Second World War, the beaches of the Médoc, like the entire French coast, were converted by the German occupying forces into an Atlantic wall in order to prevent or make it more difficult for enemies to land. These bunkers are the relicts of this dark chapter of human history.
