The oldest and most complex gate complex in the north-east is the Friedländer Tor. What is striking is the 8 meter high bell, which was connected to the front gate. The semicircular bastion protected the gate from large-caliber firearms like a bullet trap.

The Friedländer Gate is the oldest, best-preserved in terms of its complexity and, at 88 meters long, the most extensive gate system.
The city-side, 20 meter high main gate was built around 1300. The front gate on the field side was built in the first half of the 14th century. Although the latter was built for purely defensive purposes, jewelry and decorative elements were not left out. Both gates are connected by walls that form the kennel.
This facility was supplemented a century later by the three-story, eight-meter-high Zingel. This in turn was connected to the front gate by walls and thus formed another kennel. The semicircular bastion protected the gate from large-caliber firearms like a bullet trap and also served for active defense, as can be seen from the embrasures present. I
The gate complex was restored in the 1970s. In the former customs house of the tax collector, a cozy café invites you to linger.
