    The Spiterstulen guarded hut is one of the largest in Jotunheimen National Park. Accessible by road, it makes an excellent base camp for exploring the park.

    The refuge has a wide range of accommodation, from single rooms to dormitories. It is also possible to use the campsite equipped with sanitary facilities and located on the other side of the river.

    The restaurant at the refuge is excellent and serves local food. Also, do not hesitate to taste the Lomb, a beer brewed in the village of Lom located a few kilometers away.

    Finally, the site is very busy during the high season. Do not hesitate to make a reservation to ensure your place.

      Spiterstulen is a good starting point for many day trips and is also very suitable for a hut tour. The catering and the connection to public transport (bus) are positive points.

          The hut is beautifully situated on the river and is a practical starting point / stopover for many tours, especially for climbing the Galdhoppigen. There is also a bus connection here, which can be interesting as a starting / destination / or exit point. I didn't like a few things (2015):
          - Due to the end of the street including the parking lot, the atmosphere around the hut is quite touristy / close to civilization compared to Gjendebu, Glitterheim etc.
          - As campers, we didn't feel particularly welcome. Although you pay to pitch your tent and use the sanitary facilities, it felt like a strange two-class society between hut guests on one side and tent ends on the other side of the river, including separate sanitary facilities. (Or maybe just my impression after a long, exhausting day of hiking :))

          So if you are not dependent on the infrastructure of the hut and have time, you can, from my point of view, still hike a little (approx. 1 hour) into Visdalen and camp there on your own.
