Curious history: the "Franzosenviertel" in Haidhausen was created from 1871, after the victory over France in the short war of 1870/71, in the so-called Wilhelminian era. The French street and square names are actually to be understood as victory trophies. In addition, urban planning has been brought up very soberly and profit-oriented by real estate speculators: the "picturesque" appearing diagonal division of the apartment blocks follows the unsentimental idea that more living and retail space is possible on the same floor space - and thus more profit.
In the end, however, people live and work there, and the subdivision of the quarter resulted in a very colorful street life - which is why Haidhausen may seem so French or Parisian to us today. A late, sweet revenge from the French.

Pariser Platz is in the middle of Munich - Haidhausen. Wörthstrasse and Orleansstrasse, Pariserstrasse, Sedanstrasse and Weißenburger Strasse meet here.

It is one of the few places in Munich that is still really worth seeing. Benches have been set up in the middle of a ring road in a square and a lovingly laid out avenue. Small water features rise not far. The area is surrounded by old townhouses from the Wilhelminian era. The tram tracks cross the square.

It was named in 1872 after the French capital Paris.

Located between Orleansplatz at the busy Ostbahnhof, the no less busy Rosenheimer Straße and Weißenburger Platz to the north, Pariser Platz is quieter. In comparison, only a few cars get lost in the roundabout, so that you can definitely take a seat on one of the benches around the central plant roundabout. A small newspaper kiosk and a weekly fruit stand offer appropriate supply options.
