The new Plaza Bizkaia was inaugurated in 2008. In this case, the idea of the renovation was to make it more convenient and accessible for the pedestrian. Therefore, the pergolas and side waterfalls that characterized the old square disappeared, creating a more open space with an original mist fountain in the centre. This fountain, which combines steam, sculptures and light (it has been compared to a Japanese garden), was designed by architect Lorenzo Fernández Ordóñez. In addition, the square contains two children’s playgrounds.
