As a little tip:
If you start early and take the first tour, it's not that crowded and you don't have to queue. A guided tour lasts about 45 minutes and is definitely worth it in my opinion

🏰Eltz Castle is a hilltop castle from the 12th century.
It is located at 129 m above sea level in the Elz valley🌊.
With its eight residential towers up to 35 meters high, its bay windows, roofs, half-timbering and spires, it is the epitome of a knight's castle for the spontaneous observer.⚔️
It sits majestically in a side valley of the Moselle near Mayen. This imposing sight even adorned the 500 DM note for several decades.

Eltz Castle is "Germany's flagship castle".
Embedded in a fantastic landscape, it proudly watches over the country.
I decided against a visit because of the entrance fee (12 €), the mask requirement and the ban on photography.

Recommend a visit at the beginning of the opening hours because of the expected crowds of visitors.

The view of Eltz Castle is impressive as soon as you come out of the forest.
It's a shame that you have to pay admission if you just want something to drink.

The castle is beautiful and from the 12th century. Attention! If you just want to visit the castle from the outside: there are no restaurants or any toilets! If you visit the castle (actually 14 EUR per adult), you will find there toilets and restaurants in the castle. If you just want to hike, take enough food and drinks with you a d have a break at the riverside (Eltz) near the castle. You have to go down the stairs beside the bridge.

A castle straight out of a fairytale. It belonged to three families and was continually expanded and remodeled. After a fire on the upper floor caused by a lightbulb, renovations were limited to the exterior. The interior has been closed to visitors ever since.
