Ombret pudding

At this location, 395 million years ago, the delta of a river flowed into the sea. The sediments brought by the waters were deposited at the bottom. The larger pebbles saw the gaps between them filled with smaller pebbles, sand and clay. In this specific case, the binder provided to this type of natural concrete is siliceous. The pebbles, for their part, are made from quartz, which is one of the hardest elements after diamond. Over the years, the deposits have accumulated in successive thick layers, thus exerting strong pressure on the lower layers. Mineral elements circulating in solution between the coarse elements of the deposit precipitated then finally formed the pudding. Erosion eventually revealed the old shoreline.
