    The long, narrow island is exposed to the constant wind, which has an extensive population of trees, such as. B. on Norderney or Borkum, does not allow. In the 1920s, biologist Dr. Otto Leege west of the Hammersee with the planting of particularly wind-hardy plants and thus created the nature reserve that you can hike through on the approved paths.

    As rare trees you can discover black alder and Carpathian birch in the grove. This small forest is special, as it appears enchanted and ghostly with the gnarled growth of the trees. Especially when it's foggy, you'll feel transported into the realm of legends and myths. The strong wind is the reason for this unique tree growth. You can find green and gray scales on many trees. These are lichens that have settled on the tree bark. Exactly these lichens are considered indicator plants for absolutely clean air. In our grove you will find proof of the clean, low-emission air on Juist.

    When hiking through the grove, you can often see deer. They have been living on our island for about 50 years. Hike or drive to the viewing platform in the grove. From there you not only have a beautiful view over the small enchanted forest area, but also a view of the North Sea. Especially on warm days, a hike through the grove is a great alternative to a day at the beach.

    The grove is located in protection zone 1 (quiet zone) of the national park. Please note the signs! Marked hiking trails lead you through this unique landscape. As everywhere on the island, dogs must be kept on a leash.

      This little forest definitely cast a spell over us, it really gives an enchanted impression with its dense forest and cave-like alleyways.
      If we are used to wandering between tall beeches and oaks, we find bonsai oaks here (to put it exaggeratedly), only those who flee from the wind, the pines combed at an angle by the storm and constant wind are of somewhat taller growth.

        Signposted hiking trails lead you through the Juister Grove. Discover unusual tree species, such as the black alder and the Carpathian birch. Red deer, which has been living on the island of Juist for around 50 years, can also be observed here!

        A visit to the viewing platform in the forest area is particularly recommended. Enjoy the view over the small magical forest. Or over the North Sea - from here you have a fantastic view over the sea!

        A walk through the grove offers you a wonderful alternative to a trip to the beach. Especially on very warm days you can expect a soothing cool down and a relaxing rest.
