The Porte de Paris is an impressive Arc de Triomphe in Lille, France, built between 1685 and 1692 to celebrate the conquest of the city by Louis XIV in 1667.
The building is built in the classical style and is decorated with sculptures of Hercules and Mars, symbols of strength and war.
The Porte de Paris replaced the old Porte des Malades, which had been part of the city walls since the Middle Ages.
It has been classified as a historical monument since 1875.

This Arc de Triomphe was built between 1685 and 1692 to celebrate the conquest of the city by Louis XIV in 1667. It replaces the old sick gate, of a more modest construction, which had been integrated into the enclosure since the Middle Ages. The engineer in charge of the construction of the new gate, Simon Vollant, had already distinguished himself alongside Vauban during the construction of the Citadel of Lille. He deliberately sculpted a decor that expresses the power and grandeur of the Great King: on the right, in a niche, Hercules with his club, symbol of strength, on the left Mars, the God of war. The top of the Arc is crowned by two angels, trumpets in their mouths, who announce the victory of the Sun King to the whole world. The square was given a circular shape when the ramparts were demolished in 1858.
