The fire fighting boat "Brand director Franz Anton Schneider" is shared between the Wiesbaden fire department and the Mainz fire department. The berth is alternately every month in the port of WI-Schierstein or in the customs port in Mainz. The assigned area of application extends on the Rhine between Mannheim and Kaub, and on the Main from the mouth to Raunheim. As a former river ferry, it can dock almost anywhere on the embankment, can transport vehicles, or e.g. pick up a crane.

The current fireboat "Fire Director Franz Anton Schneider" was built in 1961 as a pioneer ferry for the German armed forces by the Schimag shipyard in Mannheim. In 1987 the state capital Wiesbaden decided to purchase the river ferry for the symbolic amount of DM 1 at the time. The conversion to a fireboat was carried out at a shipyard in Ginsheim-Gustavsburg and was made possible financially by the state of Hesse. It was put into service after the renovation work was completed in early 1989. Since August 1995, the fire-fighting boat has been operated and used in cooperation with the Mainz fire brigade, both financially and personally.
