The Royal House is a worthwhile destination after a strenuous hike along the Kälbersteig or alternatively the Oberreintalhütte, which is really worth it and offers a real surprise. Entry to the Royal House is only possible with a paid guided tour. On the ground floor I had the feeling that I was entering a better equipped gazebo, which confused me a little for the term Royal House or Schachen Castle. Then you go to the upper floor, where a wonderfully romantic hall in the Moorish style awaits you with colorful glass windows and lots of gold and splendor. A dream of a mountain hut.
The Royal House is not a hunting lodge, as is often written. King Ludwig II was here, just like the numerous hikers and bikers today, not to hunt but to enjoy the mountains with their wonderful panorama.
The Schachen Castle was built between 1869 and 1872, i.e. at the same time as the construction of Neuschwanstein Castle.
