Calcinara is the largest tributary of the Anapo and owes its name to its calcareous water.
Calcinara originates on the lower slopes of Pantalica, in the gorges of the Iblei Mountains. It is fed by underground springs and the Sperone torrent flows into it on the right side; As the Calcinara flows into the Anapo, it has contributed significantly to the formation of a truly remarkable Mediterranean scrub, the center of which is the deep quarry excavated by it and for this reason known as the "Calcinara Quarry".

On hot days the direction we walked is to be preferred. (You descend from Anaktoron, which is a steep path). Start early and wear reliable shoes.
