If you cross the bridge from Elsloo and want to go to the Maas, you don't have to go down via the cycle path. At the end of the bridge there is a small gate that takes you into a forest with a beautiful path from where you can see the Maas after a while with some viewpoints (by the way, it is an official Maasvallei path). After the forest, the path continues in the open to the mouth of the Hemelbeek in the Maas: clear, over pebbles and relaxing. There you are really on the water. It is a beautiful place, there is a sitting area that is being embellished more and more and you will find the old 'vaerbel' and 'grenspaal 111' (see those highlights for more information).

Under the bridge, on the Elsloo side, there is a memorial for a deceased young man, a bit off the path, so don't take anything away.

At the end of the bridge (if you come from Elsloo) there is also a nice bench and information board of the most important sights in the hamlet.
