If the horrors of war are too abstract for you - here they become visible, as in so many places on Denmark's coast. I am strangely moved by this memorial and almost drove past it.

Seven British soldiers lost their lives on December 1, 1943 when their four-engined bomber caught fire during an air raid and crashed near Hemmet.

The aviator's grave is surrounded by plants and in between there is a small pond that was formed by the crash. A memorial stone with the names of the seven crew members and a wooden cross are placed by the pond. Benches and tables invite you to spend a few thoughtful minutes.

The aviator's grave is located in the heath and has been a memorial site since 1948. The chief of police from Ringkøbing unveiled the memorial stone for which the residents had collected funds.

The memorial is already signposted on the main road in Hemmet and is therefore easy to find via a gravel path. It is a bit off the beaten path and without the signage it would have been forgotten long ago. This is how she is remembered now.

A memorial with a rest area where they lost their lives on their first mission. There is a memorial stone and a wooden cross. Very nice memorial.
