YEAR OF CONSTRUCTION 1860/1861. The order for construction is given on December 21, 1859 by the Ministry of War. The work begins in June 1860 and ends on January 5, 1861. In 1861 and 1863 the castle is structurally approved. The construction work at that time was carried out by the Tomasini company.
BUILDING STYLE: In the first generation, i. H. According to the French example: unfortified casemate, the building blocks of which are made of quicklime, worked with a chisel and offer a beautiful sight from the outside. The skilled workers at that time included three stonemasons from Verona. The entire building extends over two open floors with two rows of loopholes one above the other. An example of vertical defence, influenced by the architectural specifications of the New German School, unique among the first generation works in Trentino.
TASK: The upper works served partly as accommodation for the troops and partly as a sentry post to monitor the access routes. The lower, smaller work, also intended as a defensive building, functioned as a roadblock with its gateway.
ARMAMENTS: In 1861 the upper works were armed with six 10 cm guns, four 12 cm guns and one 15 cm gun. In the lower work, on the other hand, there were two 10 cm cannons. The work was supported by the Sagron battery (1880/81), which was located on the foothills of Monte Baldo, in a dominant position over the actual work, and was demolished in 1900. In 1914 the factory was dismantled and the cannons were positioned on the lake shore in the park of the Hartungen sanatorium.
