Today the Rauchhaus is used for events.

It was built in 1736 as a two-story house by Hanstedt I. It was demolished in 1971 and rebuilt in 1986 by the funding initiative (see pictures). This required 9,129 hours of voluntary work.

The smokehouse is, or rather used to be, a form of farmhouse in which the living area and stables were combined under one roof. These houses used to have no chimney. The smoke from the open fire always filled the interior of the building. The smoke was able to escape through the hallway door, the owl holes in the gable and leaks in the thatched roof. The woodwork was preserved by the smoke and, like the grain stored in the attic, kept pest-free. Also foods such as B. ham or sausage were preserved for a long time and smoked aromatically.

Around the Rauchhaus there is a beautiful square with many places to rest and interesting information boards.

The Rauchhaus Oldenstadt is a popular place for celebrations. The Rauchhaus support association and the local fishing club look after the Rauchhaus. There is a bathing area directly next to the Rauchhaus. A very beautiful place that I would like to recommend.

The house in Oldenstadt is run with great commitment by the Rauchhaus funding initiative. The “Stip in” fishing club also looks after the building. The smoke house is also rented for private parties.
