Directly at the Wanderparkplatz Hohenhard is the rock group "Basaltpferde". The basalt horses are a great feature. These are two smaller rocks made of slender, slightly curved basalt columns. Both act together like a team of two horses. The two rocks belong to a tertiary basalt production pit, which has a diameter of only about 20 - 30 meters. This can be reconstructed from the orientation of the basalt columns and their easy separation. It is one of the highest basalt deposits in the Bavarian part of the Geopark.
