Römer (or Roemer), who had just come to Munich from his northern German homeland and was distinguished by his powerful style, had already created the simple, monumental bowl fountain that stands today in the courtyard of the Munich Reinsurance Company (Königinstrasse 107) and the Spearmen in the main building of the LMU. Now five fountain figures from his workshop made their way to Miesbach: the crab with the ornate sign, the proud snail, the cozy frog, the pretty turtle and the gander with his crown... The animals seemed a little strange to the Miesbachers at first . They called the fountain "amphibian fountain", which sounds tongue-twisting as well as "Prussian-pointy"...
