Cancale has excellent fish restaurants and is best known for its oyster beds. Oysters are offered here in all variations at very affordable prices. The shells of the eaten Grand Cru oysters decorate large parts of the bay. But the place itself also transforms into a small, tranquil and romantic setting in the evening.

Cancale (Breton Kankaven) is a French commune in northern Brittany in the department of Ille-et-Vilaine. It is located in the northwest of the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel, about ten kilometers east of Saint-Malo, on the Côte d'Émeraude.

The small (really cute) city has 5166 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2015) and belongs to the canton of Saint-Malo-1, until 2015 it was the capital of the canton of Cancale.

Cancale is the northernmost municipality of the Ille-et-Vilaine département. The heart of the city is divided into two districts: The upper town (La Ville Haute) is located 45 m above the bay and is the center with church, market, shops and the Badevillen-settlement on the Pointe du Hock and along the rue Robert Surcouf, which is praised for its architecture and the picturesque view of the Mont-Saint-Michel. The romantic harbor (La Houle) is located directly on the sea and offers good hotels and restaurants. In the Port-Mer district is a popular sandy beach. Located about four kilometers from the city center, Pointe du Grouin is a popular destination and marks the northernmost point of the city.
