Ropta Mill is just outside the village of Mitselwier. The mill was built there in 1836 by Romke van der Werf from Betterzweiler on behalf of David Jans Sluiter.

In 1840 a severe storm blew the entire mill, a bottom sail, into the canal. A larger and sturdier octagonal mill was then built: a scaffold mill with a stone base. It was a jet mill and you could grind and peel barley. A stone was walled in over the entrance with the inscription: "I stand completely before friend and foe, God's justice decides on every share".

Other millers in the Ropster mill were winners Pieter Kits and Jouke and Pieter van der Heide.

After 1945, business was poor due to the rise of flour mills and the decline of the milling industry. Like many mills, the Ropta fell into disrepair.

Ropta Mill is a smock mill north of Metslavier. It was built in 1840 and is still functional. It is located in an industrial area and can be visited by arrangement with the owner.
