The Glenachulish is a turntable ferry on Kylerhea narrows between Kylerhea on the Scottish mainland and the Isle of Skye, operating on a summer timetable where the distance between island and mainland is shortest, around 550 metres. The strong tidal current at the site and the large tidal range make it difficult to use normal landing heads that are suitable for use by car traffic. That is why a ship with a driving deck on a manually operated turntable was chosen. To be able to drive onto the ferry, the road deck is rotated approximately 30° to starboard for car traffic and straightened again after loading. After arriving on the other side, the deck is rotated 30° again to allow the cars to drive off. This is reportedly the only ferry in the world with this mechanism.[1]

In 2008 the ferry played a role in the film Made of Honor.

History
A ferry has been sailing there for more than 400 years. A car ferry has been used here since 1934. In December 1975 this ferry was taken over, which operated near the village of Ballachulish until a bridge was put into use there. From 1982 to 2006, ferryman Murdo Mackenzie sailed the ferry as a ferry boss. When he retired, the local residents formed a joint company, which rented the ferry from him. After securing a loan of £60,000 from the Big Lottery Fund's Growing Community Assets scheme and another of £60,000 from Highlands & Islands Enterprise, the Community Interest Company was able to purchase the vessel
