The Laimer Anger is a central square in the Munich district of Laim and has a long history that is closely linked to the development of this district.
Laim was originally a small farming village, first mentioned in documents in the 11th century. It remained a rural settlement until the late 19th century. The area around today's Laimer Anger was the center of the village, where farms and the social life of the villagers were concentrated. The Anger itself was a meadow that was used as pasture and for village festivals.
With the construction of the Munich-Augsburg railway line in 1840 and the construction of a train station in Laim, the village began to develop into an urban area. The district grew rapidly, especially from the 1920s, after Laim was incorporated into Munich in 1900. However, the Laimer Anger remained a central element around which the new development was formed.
Today, the Laimer Anger is no longer an agricultural site, but an urban meeting place with a park, children's playgrounds and the St. Ulrich Church, which characterizes the district. The area around the Laimer Anger is a popular residential area and location for weekly markets and local events, which means that its historical origins as the center of the village can still be experienced.
