"... Our ancestors hung mistletoe branches on the walls of houses to protect against fire and evil spirits. Then it was long forgotten, but now the old magical plant mistletoe is having a new career as a trendy Christmas decoration.
The healing druids used mistletoe as a medicinal plant against epilepsy and dizziness. After being long forgotten, the old magical plant is now not only being used as a Christmas decoration. Its healing properties are also being appreciated again. Leaf extracts - the white berries are poisonous - are used in numerous ready-made medicines to lower blood pressure, treat age-related problems and arteriosclerosis, and even to treat cancer.
The yellow-green mistletoe with its long, evergreen leaves and round white berries is particularly noticeable in winter. Mistletoes live as parasites on trees and their branches form typical balls that are clearly visible on the winter-bare trees. Nature has come up with a very special trick to propagate mistletoe: its white fruits are so sticky that some of it sticks to bird beaks. In the past, birds were even caught by coating rods with "bird glue" made from mistletoe. ..."
