In addition to Gistpoort, it is also called the Blue Gate or Blue Gate (after the bluestone in which it is built). Another name is Ankerpoort, named after the beer brewery 'Den Anker' that used to be located here. The name Gistpoort is also a reference to this brewery.

Construction of the gatehouse started in 1509. It was completed in 1512 and was originally the eastern gateway to the Abbey complex. It was also the abbot's station gate. Because houses have been built at the back over time, the gate now appears to be separate from the abbey.
