The "Haasenburg" with its age of about 400 years is the oldest, inhabited Low German stand house on the island of Rügen. The house is located in Freesenort, a hamlet on the island of Ummanz with stunning views over the dike to Stralsund. The oldest settlement on the island of Ummanz is Freesenort. The then "Vreesenort" was first documented in 1319, and the first farms were recorded here in the 16th and 17th centuries. Four listed buildings still stand on this tranquil piece of land today. The oldest of these is the "Haasenburg," a Low German hall house with a sugarloaf roof, presumably dating back to the 17th century. It received its name "Haasenburg" because a family named Haase lived here for a long time.
Those who visit Freesenort may even feel a little transported back in time. The tranquility of this place invites you to stop looking at the clock, let your gaze wander through the surrounding nature, and enjoy the silence. The skyline of Stralsund greets you in the distance.
