The chapel, standing in the shade of a mighty linden tree, is a lively expression of the private piety of the late Baroque. Around 1750, the town of Lauringen citizen Bernhard Bauer built the first chapel; The current building was built towards the end of the 19th century and was inaugurated on June 30, 1901 under the patronage of the Seven Sorrows of Mary. Today a hawthorn hedge surrounds the chapel, which stands romantically in the shade of an old linden tree. The linden bench invites visitors to take a break and enjoy the wonderful view of the Haßberge and the Rhön.
