The Rostock Heath is popular with hikers and cyclists. From the small vantage point you have a view of the moorland.
1252 acquired the Hanseatic city of Rostock for only 435 marks the heath with its then 12000 hectares. In GDR times, the heath was increasingly used militarily, which ultimately led to a blockage of more than half of the forest area. In 1992, the city of Rostock got its heath back and had the military equipment removed.
