In 1986, director Roman Polanski needed an authentic Spanish liner from the period 1680 to 1710 as the location for his film "Pirates". So the ship "Neptune" was built according to Polanski's precise specifications. A total of 2000 people worked on this ship for 2 years (construction costs 8.2 million dollars).
The ship has three decks, is 63 meters long and is 16 meters wide. Its weight is 1500 tons. The ship is fully seaworthy, can travel at speeds of up to 5 knots (approx. 9 km/h) and can be seen in the film with full sails. It is armed with a total of 70 guns.
After the shooting, the Carthago Films company decided to make the Neptune a museum of the film "Pirates" and opened it to visitors. She is now on the quay of the Old Port.

This floating, seaworthy film set (see the detailed article by "Wiro L." above) was named after the sea god NEPTUN of Roman mythology (in Greek, POSEIDON corresponds to him, by the way).
As a larger-than-life figurehead, he is clearly visible on the bow of this replica ship, depicted with a full beard and a golden crown on his head, as well as holding a trident in his right hand - so to speak, both of their "trademarks".
