The population belongs to the municipality of La Granja de San Ildefonso, it emerged in 1883, when a wood sawmill was built to exploit the forest resources of the Valsaín forests, called at that time Real Aserrío. The original buildings of the workers' village were made of adobe and pine, reinforced with grease from factory machinery to insulate the dwellings from the cold and snow. The original machines from the 19th century stopped working in 1964. The new facility features state-of-the-art technology in the treatment of wood products and has a wood museum open to the public.

The exploitation of pine wood and the forest resources of the upper Eresma is linked to the influence of the monarchs who have resided in the summer rooms of the Palacio de la Granja in recent centuries. Carlos III bought the forests and mountains of Valsaín in the 18th century for a million silver reais, the current currency of the time, allocating part of the Crown's budget to the care of the pine forests, rivers and mountains as hunting ground and real recreational natural space, establishing rules, milestones and repopulation systems to favor the development and stability of forest masses. The extraction of pine wood as an economic resource began in the 19th century. The Scots pine is a vigorous species, it can reach thirty meters in height, the wood is of high quality and the bark sheds an orange peel on the upper half of the trunk and the upper branches, creating a striking and luminous environment. The tree is felled at 120 years of life, through a selective system that favors the presence of specimens in the forest of all ages. The products are marketed with the Maderas de Valsaín quality seal.
