The Beemden is located north of Wolvertem at the confluence of the Molenbeek and the Meuzegemse beek. The locals sometimes call the moist meadows or wet hay meadows along the streams 'the bummers'. Because the streams regularly flood, the area remains wet. The grasslands act like a sponge, so that downstream villages experience less flooding. You can regularly spot water birds there. In the pollarded willows and poplars or in the surrounding swamp forests you can hear little owls calling and see nuthatches looking for food.
Seven landscaped pools provide more opportunities for numerous plants and animals. The surrounding forests have rich spring flora. The area also connects to the beautiful castle domains of the Molenbeek Valley. The Boskapel, whose centuries-old oak forest is managed by Natuurpunt, is worth a detour.

Wonderfully beautiful domain.
The platform overlooking the meadows is very relaxing... despite the continuous noise of the nearby A12.
Take a turn to the "Veiling-bootpad", which opens up the Beemden to the neighborhood behind the Veilingstraat... but take "bootpad" seriously: the meadows are really very wet there. You can also do it with mid-high boots and gaiters, but don't start if you wear low shoes.
