Historical village center, Andermatt
Due to the original settlement from the Bündner Oberland and Upper Valais, there is still evidence of an independent building culture in the Ursern Valley compared to the rest of the canton. The well-preserved village center is of national importance. Here you will find a whole series of stately houses in the rococo style. Typical for Andermatt are the traditional wooden houses on a brick substructure. Open arcades and stone staircases also characterize the village. The Gotthardstrasse, paved with natural stone and with lanes made of granite slabs in the middle, is reminiscent of the time when the legendary Gotthard mail coaches once rumbled through Andermatt
