On the hill, you'll see the striking cross, which once served as a target for military exercises. Today, it stands still, a silent witness to times gone by. From the crossroads below, sandy paths lead in all directions, inviting you to explore the surroundings. A place where history and nature come together, inviting discovery.

Cross as target

Until the end of the 1970s, Heumensoord was used by the military. Shooting practiced. The straight paths and moors were useful for this. Even now we can still see the raised sand hills that served as ammunition catcher. On one of them is a steel cross, an old target for grenade launchers.

Until the end of the 70s this was a military training ground. The hills you see in the area were used to catch bullets during shooting exercises. The cross on this hill used to be the target where soldiers had to throw grenades.
