The first church in the Linner area dates back to the seventh century, but it was destroyed along with the surrounding settlement in 1279 by a flood. Little is known about the first Linner town church on today's Margaretenplatz, which was destroyed by the collapse of the church tower in 1814. It was not until the end of 1819 that the first service could be celebrated in a new building; the Benedictine service took place on June 1, 1820. Conversion work in the middle of the 19th century for two additional side portals led to today's appearance.
