          History

          At the beginning of the 18th century, an old farm stood on the site of today's park called "Schoenwater". The park itself is a landscape park from the 19th century. The farm was sold to the tobacco manufacturer Johann Helgers, who built a manor house here in 1830. Over time, the house and its later extensions also came into the possession of the de Greiff family and from 1845 served as the country estate of the Schreibler family. In 1891, the restorer Johann Bends acquired the building and set up an entertainment and excursion restaurant. In 1910, the building became the property of the city of Krefeld. A little later, the landscape park was rebuilt as part of emergency work and extended along the Johansenaue and Crön (today "Crönpark"). Due to a lack of care, negative economic influences and the effects of war, the property fell into disrepair.
