Swan Fountain in Zittau
At the upper end of the New Town stands the Swan Fountain, built in 1710. The swan is made of sandstone and a copper mount and was created by the Zittau master sculptors Johann Gottlob Anders and Gottfried Jäch. The Swan Fountain, a baroque fountain in the upper part of the New Town, was created in 1710 by the sculptors Johann Gottlob Anders and Gottfried Jäch. A richly decorated shell mountain, approximately 2.50 meters high, "grows" from the sandstone fountain bowl. A swan sits on top, from whose beak the water pours into the fountain. The fountain was built to glorify the swans, the kings of waterfowl. It is considered a symbol of dignity, peace, and a far-sighted spirit.
