"... Anyone who went on a journey in Roman times often spent a long time on the road and had to endure many hardships. The hostel of the Colonia Ulpia Traiana offered travelers comfortable accommodation, hospitality and the delights of a hot bathhouse.

The rebuilt inn not far from the ancient harbor shows all the facilities in which merchants, craftsmen and other travelers found relief from the hardships of the journey. From the long portico, where the Roman restaurant is also located, corridors lead to smaller shared rooms. Larger room groups offered greater comfort to those who could afford them. All rooms in the hostel are furnished and decorated with wall paintings based on Roman models.

At the end of the colonnade is the Roman kitchen, where freshly prepared delicacies based on ancient recipes are offered on certain dates of the Roman weekends. From the anteroom, a staircase leads down to the cellar with the Roman "refrigerators" - large storage containers that were buried in the ground and kept food fresh for a long time. If you look closely here, you can see the transition from the real Roman masonry to the modern rows of stone ..."
