    This fortress was built between 1669 and 1702 and was declared a Site of Public Interest in 1982. It can currently be visited but as there are no maintenance services, it is in a state of complete abandonment.

      "The fort is a small star-shaped bulwark with an artillery battery.
      The building dates back to the 16th century and was built by D. Pedro II, who ensured that construction continued into the next century.
      This fortress protected the mouth of the Cávado until the French invasions (19th century).
      Currently you can also see the Esposende lighthouse, located in the fort.
      It consists of a 15 meter high, cylindrical red iron tower sitting on a concrete base and capped at the top by a flare with a range of 20 nautical miles.
