The Wurzacher Ried is one of the largest nature reserves and one of the most important moor areas in southern Germany. Due to its size of 1812 ha, its originality and the characteristic mosaic of the most diverse moor habitats, the Wurzacher Ried is home to a very unusual flora and fauna.
The core area, which is still largely untouched, is now considered to be the largest contiguous and still intact raised bog in Central Europe. Peat used to be cut here, but now the Wurzacher Ried is a nature reserve and peat may no longer be cut.
