"One-man bunkers are cylindrical mini-bunkers made of concrete. They were often built in factories and military installations where it was not possible for workers to leave their post to go to a regular bomb shelter. Such as the fire stations or Emergency workers who had to remain in the vicinity of the production facilities during a bomb attack in order to be able to start the rescue and extinguishing work immediately Numerous one-man bunkers were also built for the employees on Reichsbahn premises, especially in the depots.
The bunkers were mostly designed for 1-2 men and only offered protection against flak, bomb splinters and incendiary bombs. Most bunkers, also known as LS cells, have several observation slots at eye level so that the occupants could find out about the damage in the area. To protect the cells from tipping over in the event of close bomb hits, they were cast on a large concrete foundation."
