The town, like many others in the middle Val di Serchio, was the power of the Rolandinghi until the 12th century. It then passed to the Bizzarri, their successors, who retained the lordship for another century. Traces of this tiny potentate are still visible in the upper part of the town, where you can admire the suggestive door that led to the fortress, and the sixteenth-century palace where the community held its meetings. Interesting are in Lucignana certain stones of houses, rich in friezes and engravings, perhaps coming from the ancient residences of the Bizzarri, and the parish church of the 12th century which, although transformed over time, reveals the primitive Romanesque structures on the side facing the street.
