Camping Bakkum (in full Kennemer Duincamping Bakkum) is a camping site located between the village of Bakkum in the North Holland municipality of Castricum and the North Sea beach. The campsite in the North Holland Dune Reserve has an area of 56 hectares. It is owned by PWN Waterleidingbedrijf Noord-Holland. The recreation company claims the title of the oldest campsite in the Netherlands.
Camping Bakkum started on the private estate of the German princess Luise zu Wied. In 1914 she gave permission to people to pitch their tents there. The campsite therefore celebrated its centenary in 2014. The campsite was officially opened in 1928.
The campsite is located in the North Holland Dune Reserve, a water extraction area. Camping is therefore subject to strict requirements. For example, the living quarters must be removed every winter. In addition to tents, they were often wooden houses with a canvas roof.
