‘Leap of Faith’ depicts a pair of girls’ legs in pleated skirts, jumping on the squares of a hopscotch game. With this, Sofie Muller refers to the street as a play area, but also to the floor plan of a medieval cathedral. A leap of faith: a leap of faith, a leap into the unknown or a combination of both.

Leap of Faith - Sofie Muller

In 2010, the municipality of Laarne won the Radio 2 competition 'At home for an image'. That image was Sofie Muller's Leap of Faith. It depicts two girl's legs in a three-dimensional game of hopscotch with seven compartments. The image evokes memories of the time when playing in the street was still possible and is at the same time a call to give play a new place in public space. It also refers to the many leaps that man has to make in his life and within society. Muller made the statue in patinated bronze. The pedestal has the shape of a church floor plan and is made of blue stone.
