For lovers of tulips and endless expanses of flowers, a visit to Keukenhof is a "must do".

Keukenhof in a few figures, it is 32 hectares of flowers, 7 million bulbs arranged according to a theme that changes every year, and 1.4 million visitors in a few weeks.

The Keukenhof is a Dutch garden in the northern municipality of Lisse in the province of South Holland, which attracts tourists especially at the time of the tulip blossom.

In the 15th century the area where the Keukenhof is located was still untouched nature and property of Jakobäa of Bavaria. Except for hunting, the estate was used to grow herbs for the castle kitchen. Hence the name Keukenhof (kitchen garden). In 1857, landscape architect Zocher created the garden plan for Keukenhof Castle (built in 1642). The English landscape garden that he created at that time still forms the basis of the park. At the suggestion of a group of bulb growers, the Keukenhof was set up as a spring flower show in 1949 to give them the opportunity to introduce their plants.

About 100 purveyors are responsible for the fact that every year onion flowers - such as narcissi, hyacinths, imperial crowns - can be seen in the Keukenhof [1], which flourish well in the sandy and calcareous soil. The main theme is traditionally tulips, of which 4,500,000 are planted by hand each year in 100 variations. In total, around 7 million flower bulbs are planted each year in the 30 flower shows. The 32-hectare park with 2,500 trees in 87 variations is criss-crossed by 15 kilometers of walking paths and has seven inspirational gardens with garden ideas for visitors. In addition, the Keukenhof with 150 works by 50 artists is also a large sculpture park.
