After the Reformation had taken hold in the Eppinger district of Richen and the old existing church was added to the Catholics by Elector Johann Philipp von der Pfalz, the Reformed citizens of Richen built their own church on a purchased building site. This construction was completed in 1726.
Thereafter, the Lutherans and the Reformed united in 1820, which made this church too small - a new building followed, the current Protestant church.
The old church was auctioned by Jakob and Andreas Hörn in 1846 and has been used mainly as a barn since then.
